About Marshall
Multi-disciplinary Creative Practitioner
Rev. Marshall K Hammer (she/her/they/them) has served in therapeutic environments for more than 10 years.
She is the owner and sole practitioner of Reiki for Today and For Today Ministry, located on the unceded East Cherokee territory known today as Asheville, North Carolina.

Marshall is a Reiki Level III (Master ) practitioner with an additional Animal Reiki Certification.
She established her professional practice, Reiki for Today, on November 1st, 2017. Her specialty is animal reiki, working with animals in many situations, including anxiety, chronic pain, aging, and those adapting to changing habitats or newly adjusting to losses in the home.
In addition to her animal clients, Marshall also performs reiki for people seeking general well-being, energetic balance to complement their recovery, and those who are grieving. She also works with queer folks and those caregiving in their careers or in their personal lives.

Marshall is an Ordained Animal Chaplain.
Her work with animals and their human counterparts has been the largest part of her practice, including working with companion animals as they age and with humans when their companions transition. Marshall serves in the role of Program Coordinator for the 9-month Animal Chaplaincy Training program at Compassion Consortium.
Marshall is an Interfaith/Interspiritual Minister, focused on offering healing presence.
She has been engaged in community ministry since graduating from One Spirit Interfaith Seminary in 2021. She co-founded and co-hosts (with Rev. Elia Singer) the Wonder Queer Podcast which uplifts stories of everyday wonderment, awe, and magic in the lives of queer people.
She facilitated a curriculum of spirituality topic groups at two addiction recovery treatment centers in Asheville. Since 2021, she has also been volunteering as a co-facilitator of One Spirit in Recovery, a recovery group specifically supporting her seminary’s alumni and ministers in training.
Marshall is a Survivor of Suicide Loss and an active support to peers for nearly a decade.
Marshall lost her father to suicide in 2011. She served for 4 years on the NC Chapter Board of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She remains on the Loss & Healing Committee in North Carolina.
In 2018, she received training in Pittsburgh from Pamela Gabbay and Andy McNiel to facilitate Survivors of Suicide Loss peer groups. For more than 5 years, she coordinated and facilitated a no-cost monthly support group for fellow survivors in the Asheville area.
In 2021, Marshall presented Talk Saves Lives for aging adults to Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC Asheville. She later participated in the Long-Term Survivors of Suicide Loss Summit in Cleveland, Ohio in 2022. She has been a guest on Rob Hlavaty's Podcast about suicide loss, "Writing on the Walls."
Marshall continues to deepen her commitment and creative outreach in supporting other survivors.

Marshall is honored to be of service to her communities. She is devoted to her own health and well-being, continuing to witness the many ways it informs her skillful and thoughtful work with others.
